How freelancer tax works in Europe
Self-employed tax works differently from employee payroll in every European country. As a freelancer, you pay income tax on your profit (revenue minus business expenses) rather than gross salary, and you are responsible for both the employee and employer share of social contributions. The rates, thresholds, and available deductions vary significantly. In Italy, the Regime Forfettario offers a 15% flat tax on a reduced income base. In the Netherlands, ZZP'ers benefit from a โฌ3,750 self-employed deduction. In France, Auto-Entrepreneurs pay a simple flat percentage of revenue. Our calculators apply the real rules for each country so you can see your actual take-home pay.
